Bassmead Manor, St. Neots

Every once in a while, a wedding comes along that reminds me why I do what I do, and this was one of those weddings.

Katie grinning ear-to-ear as she came down the aisle, Matt winking at her when they turned to face each other for their vows, the looks of sheer joy as they were showered in confetti; the Willmott wedding had one amazing moment after another, and by the end of the day I was tell anyone and everyone that I have the best job in the world, because it really was incredible.

When I first spoke with Katie and Matt, they told me they weren’t soppy people. They opted for the shortest ceremony possible, and they didn’t want any sentimental, emotional stuff on their wedding day. To them, their wedding was an opportunity to party with their friends and have a great time.

Then something strange happened. In the morning, Katie gave Matt a very touching card. I assumed this was merely a sentimental blip, but then Matt proceeded to give one of the most emotional groom speeches I’ve ever heard. Despite what they’d intended, clearly they couldn’t help themselves – they were so happy to be there, and they knew it!

After a very smiley ceremony in the barn at Bassmead Manor, guests enjoyed drinks in the garden before being treated to a Mariachi band (a surprise for the couple from Matt’s mum). After dinner, we had the most amazing couple shoot, where Katie and Matt laughed and messed around while myself and Reid Photography rolled around in some tall grass to get the shot. Finally, it was time for the party they’d always wanted, with pizza, gin on tap and a very talented band whose name I can’t for the life of me remember.
